Thing # 4

Blogs could be used as a forum to post tips for teachers. For example, after attending the staff development about PowerSearch Plus and Online Databases, I wanted to share this information with the teachers. A blog would be a quick and easy way to share this information. Teachers could add their own comments about searches, websites, etc. A blog could also be used to keep teachers and parents informed about what is happening in the library. A brief description of the day's activities and recognition of students or teachers that contributed in a positive way is a great way to validate the importance of the library. It could also be used to highlight books for a particular topic or concept. You could create a list of books that the teachers could use for lessons on visualizing, story elements and more. Teachers could add more titles to the list. A blog is a great way to share information with each other.

Thing # 3

Creating an avatar was fun and easy.

Thing # 2

As I viewed the 7 1/2 Habits tutorial, I realized that I developed many of these habits while earning my MLS online. I think that many times the hardest thing to do is to take the time to write down your goals and develop a plan to reach those goals. Habits 2, 3, and 4 will be easy for me. Accepting responsibility for my learning, viewing problems as challenges, and having confidence in myself as a competent learner are habits that were perfected as a classroom teacher and online student. Habits 7 and 7 1/2 will be the most difficult because they will take time.

Thing # 1

Creating a blog was very easy but it is something that I would not have done just for the fun of it. This assignment will force me to get out of my comfort zone. I don't like expressing my thoughts in writing so blogging has never appealed to me but I am still excited about developing my Web 2.0 skills. The majority of the 23 Things will be new to me. I know that developing these skills will help me professionally and personally. Flickr looks like fun!
